Razan Elkhatib is a multidisciplinary artist and independent filmmaker based in Montreal, with a strong passion for storytelling, filmmaking, and visual arts. Her work is deeply rooted in social realities, identity, and culture, often shedding light on underrepresented voices and marginalized communities.
She holds a Bachelor’s degree in Communication Science (Multimedia) from Sudan University of Science and Technology, where she wrote and directed her first short film, Amal (2012), addressing the sensitive issue of female circumcision (FGM). Since then, she has developed a broad skill set in screenwriting, directing, and production management.
Before relocating to Canada, Razan worked as a creative copywriter in Sudan’s advertising industry, contributing to some of the country's most impactful campaigns. Her engagement extended beyond the professional realm through volunteer work with various NGOs and grassroots initiatives, deepening her understanding of social issues such as gender equity, public health, disability rights, and peacebuilding.
Since settling in Montreal in 2019, she has continued to grow as a filmmaker. She completed a certificate in screenwriting and film production at Concordia University’s School of Cinema, as well as training in photography and videography. Her professional development also includes an internship with the Canadian Media Producers Association and two artist residencies supported by the Conseil des arts de Montréal, focused on scriptwriting and film production.
Razan is passionate about contributing to cultural and socially engaged projects, collaborating with diverse communities, and using film as a medium for connection, empathy, and transformation.
